TeX Live 2014 for Debian

I have just uploaded a set of packages that brings TeX Live 2014 (as it is currently frozen in preparation for the DVD image) to Debian/unstable. The packages have already been accepted and will find their way to the Debian mirrors over the next day.

TeX Live/Debian

The packages are all based on the preliminary DVD image/tlnet status for TL2014. The following source packages have been uploaded:

  • texlive-base, -lang, -extra version 2014.20140528-1: these packages contain the shared components of TeX Live, that is all but binary programs.
  • texlive-bin version 2014.20140528.34243-1: containing the binaries as well as shared libraries and transitional packages
  • tex-common version 5.01: common infra-structure, managing of format, font map, hyphen updates
  • context 2014.05.21.20140528-1, context-modules 20140528-1: the version in TeX Live 2014

Already a few days ago I have uploaded tex-gyre 20140520-1 which contains the TeX Gyre fonts as well as the updated TeX Gyre Math fonts.

Notable changes in these packages are:

  • luatex is included back into texlive-binaries, and is not built as separate package anymore (but we provide a transitional package). The development of LuaTeX has reached a much more stable pace, which makes is reasonable to drop the separate package.
  • texlive-lang-cjk: three new packages texlive-lang-japanese, texlive-lang-korean, texlive-lang-chinese were split of from the (previously very big) texlive-lang-cjk. These new packages contain the packages relevant only to the respective language, while texlive-lang-cjk contains packages necessary for all three.
  • paper size configuration for xdvi was fixed
  • hundreds of packages updated from CTAN, too many to list them here

Although I run the usual tests (install, upgrade from stable, upgrade from unstable) and the packages have seen some testing from members of the Debian TeX team, I expect bugs to show up in the next weeks with the proliferation of TeX Live/Debian installations. After fixing these the packages will soon migrate to Debian/testing and contained in the next release of Debian.

Enjoy!
